Urban Garden - Bristol
This city garden in Bristol needed to be opened up and transformed to complement the living areas.
The client has a small conservatory which is used throughout the year and wanted something great to look at in the winter and perfect for using in the summer.
A new limestone patio was built next to the house, and a raised bed, made from oak, was built along one side and planted with black bamboo to screen the patio and conservatory from the neighbours.
The garden was opened out using an octagonal lawn with planting beds surrounding it. The planting uses a mix of shrubs and herbaceous perennials chosen for their low growth to ensure that the full width of the garden can be seen.
High stone walls were not wasted and were an ideal opportunity for growing climbers - clematis, honeysuckle and a small cultivar of Wisteria were used and will soon add further depth to the space as the grow and spread. There was an old tree in the garden which was blocking light and space.
To rectify this permission was sort from the council to reduce the canopy and raise the lower branches… this instantly created a much bigger garden, with a shady area for a table and chairs.
A storage area had to be incorporated into the space and this was disguised using trellis and planting. everything was carefully considered to create a great outdoor space.
